Optometrist

Duties and Responsibilities:
Optometrist treat vision problems by diagnosing and prescribing eyeglasses, contact lenses, or vision therapy. Optometrist can’t prescribe medication, perform surgery, and treat diseases like an ophthalmologist. Most optometrist is self-employed or work in hospitals, clinics, government agencies, or universities.

Salary: $78,000

Education:
In order to become an Optometrist students must take challenging high school courses in math, science, and English. Must take a 2 year college pre-professional program, and then enter optometry school. After being awarded the degree, Doctor of Optometry, you must then pass a state exam before you begin with your practice.

Reflection:
I would like to be an Optometrist because it seems like an easy job, you get to meet different people and see different eyes each day.  You get to understand why certain people can’t see that well it just seems like a cool job especially because there isn’t any surgery involved.

Optical Laboratory Technician

Duties and Responsibilities:
Optical laboratory Technicians fit in the glass into the eyeglasses frames that were prescribed by an ophthalmologist, or optometrist. They set up the machines to polish and fit in the glass. Some ophthalmic technicians work in optical laboratories, but many work in retail stores that have optical departments.

Salary: $15,000 - $20,000

Education:
Students need a high school diploma or a GED, and then begin optical laboratory training. This type of training is available in vocational school and community colleges, training last from six months to a year.

Reflection:

I wouldn’t like to work in this type of job I just don't feel it and I aim a little higher than putting glass into eye glasses frames. Not my thing, but there are people than would enjoy this job but that’s just not me.
